Citric Acid Passivation and Descale

⚠️ THIS PAGE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS

Boilers can have scale build up depending on the hardness of the water used.

We recommend a simple food grade method for passivation that also acts to descale the machine.

1:10 ratio of water to Citric acid power + heat.

This method chemically converts the outer layer of stainless to remove any free irons that could lead to rust. You can get bags of Citric Acid online from places like Amazon.

Steps:

Heat the solution in the boiler, leave for 15-20 minutes. You can then run it through the grouphead a few times for good measure.

Repairing and Preventing Corrosion

The polishing process during manufacturing may sometimes leave microscopic burrs that can be spots where corrosion can start.

A green scuffing pad or 800+ grit sand paper will get those marks off without damaging anything.
