Portafilter Not Locking in at 6 o'clock

Please note that it is normal for a new machine to have the portafilter lock in at around the 8 o'clock position. This is because the gaskets are still new.

The locking-in position of the portafilter can also be impacted by the style of filter basket you use, and how much the top lip of the basket protrudes above the top of the portafilter once it is inserted.

As long as you have a tight seal and you see no coffee escaping around the group during your shot, there is no issue with the portafilter.

As the silicone gasket of the grouphead wears down with time and use, you will find that your portafilter will start to lock in closer and closer to 6 o'clock in order to achieve a good seal.

If however you'd like your portafilter to lock in closer to 6 o-clock for aesthetic reasons, you can purchase a thinner gasket - we currently ship the machine with an 8.3mm E61group silicone gasket. Customers have tried 8mm Cafelat E61 gaskets with success.

NOTE: If you find that the lock-in position of your portafilter has drastically changed, and it needs to be locked in much further than normal, please check that the bolts connecting the top plate to the grouphead are tight. Loose bolts in this area can increase the gap where the portafilter locks in, leading to a loose connection.
