Replacing the Solid State Relay
The Solid State Relay (SSR) controls when your Argos heats.'
⚠️ Important:
- Turn the machine off and unplug it before starting.
- Allow the unit to cool completely before working inside.
- Never attempt this procedure while the machine is connected to power.
🛠️ Tools Needed
- Small flathead screwdriver (for prying spade connectors)
- Replacement SSR
- 1.5mm hex key to loosen the grub screw on the temperature knob
- 3mm hex key to remove the side panels
- Optional: Plastic spudger or guitar pick to more easily remove wooden side panels
1. Access the SSR
- Remove the back cover and side panel.
- Locate the Solid State Relay in the back corner of the machine.
2. Disconnect the Wires of the old SSR
- Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry up each spade connector.
- Remove and swap one wire at a time to avoid confusion.
3. Reconnect the Wires to the new SSR
- Two high-voltage AC wires → connect across the “~” (tilde) terminals.
- Red signal wire → Positive (+).
- Black signal wire → Negative (–).
💡 Tip:
To quickly check, Red wires are diagonally across from each other, and so are the Black wires
Always make sure the wire's insulation covers the terminal (metal connector) when reattached.
Keep the SSR’s metal base exposed as it serves as a heat sink.
✅ Final Check
Prior to reattaching the back panel -
- Plug in the machine and power it on (keep hands away from hot parts!)
Connect to the Odyssey Espresso app to verify the machine is heating.
Look at the SSR:
- Green LED on → machine is heating.
- Green LED off → heating has stopped at target temperature.
