Shower Screen Leaking
When the piston is in its resting position, its gaskets form a seal between the grouphead and boiler. This prevents pressurized water from flowing through the shower screen.
If water is coming out of the shower screen when the piston is in its resting position, then keep reading for potential issues / solutions.
1. One or more piston gaskets are torn or worn.
To check, remove the piston from the grouphead and carefully inspect each gasket for damage.
If you're unsure, send photos of your piston to support@odysseyespresso.com and we'll help assess the condition.
⚠️ Causes of premature wear:
- Not using enough Molykote or equivalent food-safe grease on the piston gaskets
- Insufficient maintenance interval leading to excessive coffee debris around the piston gaskets
- Gasket tearing during piston installation if it catches on a sharp edge of the grouphead

2. The lower most piston gasket is flipped the wrong way
Note that the widest part of the lowest gasket is pointing upwards - this is the correct orientation of this gasket. Assembling it upside down can lead to leaks through the shower screen when the boiler is up to temperature
3. The piston linkage has not been assembled correctly
When in Direct Configuration, you want to thread the bolts through the lower hole of the piston linkage. Using the upper hole in Direct will cause the piston to sit too high, leading to water entering the grouphead from the boiler when the piston is at rest.
